sciences at one and the same time. Also, geography has been defined as the mother of all
science, though as a widowed mother, because in due course of time, other sciences
parted with geography and developed separately and attained their full-fledged status. On
the one hand, geography deals with the natural sciences like universe, botany, geo-
physics and environment, the social sciences like economics, sociology, culture, etc. get
the equal room in geography on the other. Geography is also the chronological science
dealing with the distributions. Taking geography as a science of the study of earth’s
surface, on can very well understand the vast scope and subject- matter of geography.
The surface of the earth does not only mean the uppermost layer or crust of the earth but
it includes lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere, interior of the earth and planetary
relations of the earth. All these are inter related and interdependent on one another and
their interaction is very important so much so that the existence of one is directly
governed and controlled by another and vice-versa.
